Yes, I read that and followed it's instructions. Specifically, I:

1. Closed all windows.
2. Clicked on Finder in the Dock.
3. Set Finder preferences to "Always open folders in a new window."
4. Closed preferences window.
4. Double-clicked on my hard drive icon ("DLC"), which opened in icon 
view.
5. Changed the view of the window "DLC" to list view.
6. Closed the window "DLC"
7. Logged out.
8. Logged back in.
9. Double-clicked on "DLC"; window opens in icon view.
