I wonder if Exit displays it all. There is verbose booting Cmd-V which is supposed to show all the activity behind the gray apple. I used to be able to do it. Maybe Exit invokes a verbose boot. (Later) I think so ... I just tried Cmd-V and it gave me a dead gray screen like Exit did.
