Dan,
Is the network adapter seen by the routher? Check your DHCP table in the 
router. I have a linksys router and that's how I can check to see if things 
are on the network.

Have you limited the number of connections to your network in the router 
software? If so, you will need to change that.  If not, perhaps something is 
not connected properly. I would think as long as it's going into the router it 
could be seen by all computers on the network.
