One thing that made me think this might be the "M" version, or at least 
something compatible with a Mac, is that when you print out the 
configuration sheet, in the HP MIO section it reads:

Appletalk Status: Ready

It also gives the following additional network-related information:

Etalk Net: 0
Node: 000 P2
Appletalk Name: LaserJet 5
Etalk Zone: (blank)
TCP/IP Status: Ready
IP Address: 56.74.47.24
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Def. Gateway: 56.74.47.1
Syslog Server: Not specified

Seeing that Appletalk and Ethertalk information displayed gave me hope 
that it was indeed Mac-compatible without having to jump through a lot 
of  hoops.
