If I understand what you are describing you are wanting to have a USB device casey chain from a FireWire device. This isn't going to work. The USB port can not talk firewire. If you are looking for a cheap fast way to access your USB drive you can look into joining it to your network. Look at this ebay auction. Item number 180158321105

This way you can make use of your high speed LAN instead of the slow usb 1.0 port. And even be able to access from more then one device at a time .
