A torx driver is like a screw driver but its head is shaped somewhat
like a star. It fits into screws with complementary shapes in the head.
I think torx screws are used for two reasons:

1) They are, more or less, rare, and electronic manufacturers don't want
users messing with the computers, etc.
2) The torx drivers fit more securely in the torx screws and therefore,
don't strip the heads as easily!

There is a downside to all this, there are a gazillion different sizes.
And, in my experience, manufacturers use more than one torx size in the
screws in the equipment.
