You may need to attach a small cable from the power brick to the  
part that connects to the drive.
I have one that uses power from the usb port to power a 2.5' drive.  
But they did include an adapter for the power adapter to plug into  
the ide/sata interface. If that does not work, the drive may either  
be bad, or need a utility to get the info off of it.

I can con the adaptor to the drive and when I plug the usb cable into
the usb port the red light on the adaptor lights up. I can hear the
drive mechanism but the drive never mounts on the desk top.

Any thoughts?
