Thanks so much John, now how do I handle the size that I want the small film scan to be, is that simply a matter of the scanning software and choosing the size I want the film to be? When this is put into iPhoto I want it high enough resolution to fill the screen and print at least an 8 x 10 print so maybe that is handled by the dpi choice?

Thanks again for your help.

John,

Your getting the entire tonal range of the image when scanning from the neg/transparency, which you won't from scanning the photo.

What is the difference between scanning from a photo vs scanning from
the negative?

In scanning the photo they are usually a certain size, how does that
equate with the size that would be imported if you scan from the
negative?

So far I have always scanned from the photo but possibly I am not
getting near the quality I would with the negative?

I appreciate any input.
