I have looked for a better connection, but the only thing available
in my neighborhood is satellite service at $90+ per month. AT&T
offers service to cell phones, but they tell me it would not help me
where I live, and their competitors say I will not live long enough
to get their fast service. My house is about 900 feet from the
county road, which is probably part of my problem.
Obama says he will get fast internet service to the poor, but what
would help me is fast internet service for the rich. Maybe I should
be calling my congressman. Any ideas?
Neal, I too live where satellite is the only alternative to dial-up,
and I'm 1700 feet (downhill!) from the road. I'm paying $60/month for
mine. Back before Snow Leopard it got to the point I was four system
updates behind because each one would have taken more than 24 hours
at dialup speed and the connection wouldn't last that long.
I get so annoyed with AT&T bombarding me with ads for combining my
landline and cell service. They should check the signal strength
(zero) before they try to sell me something that doesn't exist. OH,
yes, my ADDRESS has AT&T signal, but I don't want to walk up to the
mailbox to check my voice mail.
