Well, it looks like in your "getCategoryDetail" function you are
creating an object of type "model.category":
<cfset var category = createObject("component", "model.category").init
( arguments.event.getArg("whichcategory") ) />
However the return type is simply "category".
The type "category" and "model.category" are two different types so
you need to stick with one convention. If you are instantiating the
project as "model.category" then use this whenever you are referencing
that type.
So, in other words, change your return type to "model.category".
