Hi folks –

Thanks for the info. I am lobbying to continue to do development in CF,
specifically in Mach-II. We'll see where it goes. At the very least we'll run
CF for a few more years undoubtedly, since we have existing apps built in CF
that we don't want to refactor into PHP. (or at least *I* don't want to. ;-)

I think it's partly a matter of cost, and some sort of idea of the manager that
more things are going the way of PHP these days. (WTF? Hard to know where that
is coming from). We pay for 2 enterprise licenses now (2 virtual servers in a
cluster, each with 4 virtual processors...), which is a fair bit of $.
Additionally there have been some performance issues with CF, which I think is
mostly a matter of poor coding on the part of previous developers. We are also
bringing up WordPress and Drupal as services for the greater community, so
those run under PHP, thus more efforts in that direction.

I'll check out PHPUnit, it would be nice if there are some DI and MVC (and
maybe even ORM) options too. We'll see how it plays out. I may be able to get
the ability to continue to do new development in MachII for a while yet,
hopefully. But just hedging my bets in case I have to make a wholesale switch
sooner than expected.

Thanks!
-Ed
(Matt, I took your Mach-II day-long class at CFUnited 2008, which is the best
thing I got out of that conference.)

curious to hear why people switch away from CFML, so if you can share some
of the rationale I'd be interested. Thanks.
