This is a forwarded E-mail from the OS X list that I sent earlier today, as
I thought afterwards, that this list might be of more benefit to an answer.
Sorry for the double posting for those on both lists.

All of this talk about IP addresses and Routers has been VERY interesting to
me!
I've got a Linksys Cable/DSL Router that I've installed that allows my 2
Macs, and my single PC to access the Net. I'm hosting my Cold Fusion Website
on my PC, otherwise, the PC would have never entered my life. ;-)
I HAD the local TimeWarner Cable Modem service until they kept bouncing my
IP around all the time. At first, I had the same IP address from them for
over a year, then suddenly they kept switching it on me. I finally found
that DIRECTVInternet offers DSL providing a STATIC IP addresses!! Pretty
much the same price as my Cable Modem had been, but with a Static IP
address!! No more repropagating my domain name out on the net every few
weeks! Woo Hoo! (BTW, Anyone out there that would be interested, they're
Nationwide if your local area supports DSL, mentioning my name {provided off
list} would provide me some free time on my service for the recommendation!
I'm certainly not selling them to anyone, but hey! free is free! :-)
Anyway... Since installing my Linksys Router, however, I have been very
interested in figuring out how I can access my computer from work to share
files, calendars and such. But, with the Router installed, I can't figure
out what settings I need to make so that I can go back to doing this. I can
access my website from the the Static IP given to me by DIRECTVInternet, but
not the computers behind the router. Thoughts? Ideas?
Also, one last thing! I'm pretty sure it's possible to host more than one
website on the same computer. I've been thinking that maybe this is built-in
to the Router (forwarding?), but I'm not completely sure of all of the
features the Router provides or how they work. I'm gathering that it is just
something that tells the visitor to go to a specific folder on the computer
based on the website that he's looking for. I'm just not 100% sure on how to
do this.
Thanks in advance! And thanks for all of the GREAT info so far!
Peace.
