@Home handled provisioning very differently.  See the [*] in my other reply.

I should add that there are some sub-pieces of the MSOs that still 
use a variation of @Home's method.  Basically, those are segments 
that were bought out and never fully merged into the big boys' (AT&T, 
Charter, Comcast) infrastructure.  That's being left for the next 
wave of network-wide upgrades.
