Normally with OS 9, you tell the Macintoshs to connect via Ethernet in the AppleTalk control panel and to use DHCP in the TCP/IP control panel. Then the router will dynamically assign IP numbers to each computer inside the LAN and the ISP sees only the router. I assume you do something similar in OS X. But how do things work without the hub? Most routers with four or more ports function as hubs. If you have two or more computers in the same room as the router, try eliminating the hub and see what happens. On the hub, do you have an uplink switch to turn on or off?
