I have a LaserWriter 4/600 PS on my small network at home, and about half the time we try to print to it the green light on the printer blinks for a while, and then "Sorry, a Postscript error Occurred."
The printer is connected with a serial cable to my UMAX S900 Mac clone running OS 9.1 and LocalTalk Bridge 2.1. The other computer that prints to it is a Rev. B iMac running 9.2.2. The computers are both sharing a cable internet connection via a D-Link DI-704 router. We get the PostScript errors in Internet Explorer, Word, Acrobat Reader, maybe other programs too. One other strange thing, the first time I try to print from either computer after turning them on I get a message "Blah blah failed to print, would you like to cancel or try again?" and when I pick "try again" it works (or gives the PS error.) Any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting this? The printer seems to be nearing the end of it's toner (still the original cartridge from when I bought the printer for $14.99 at Goodwill last year) and if there's nothing I can do to get rid of these errors maybe I'll start shopping for a different printer rather than more toner for this one.
