I was able to get the Dell working on my Snow Airport network but it required turning off encryption.
hum. It doesn't work with either WEP or WPA?
I'm digging but not finding anything specific. :\
My questions: how exposed am I with encryption off?
eh. You may get warchalked or sniffed... someone stealing some of your bandwidth. But security-wise, your traffic is basically safe (see the other replies in this thread).
Should I return the Dell and get a different Windoze laptop?
Now that's a religious issue. An iBook or PowerBook would be a fine replacmeent. But if you must stick with a pee cee, Dell is probably the best of that class. Well, at least they have good telephone tech support. You need that with Windows. :)
"Why cant my Dell TrueMobile wireless card connect to an Apple AirPort wireless access point or wireless router? Some wireless manufacturers add features that go above and beyond the scope of the 802.11 specification.
[etc]
What a load. Apple's Airport is spot on to the specs. Intel's ?centrino? takes a few liberties, however.
