Hi, I had this problem connecting my G4 powerbook, to
my OS 9.1 Starmax. On the G3 machine, you must go to
the TCP/IP control panel and set the pull down menu
that says "connect via" to "ethernet" Normally if you
are using a dial up modem, it is set to "PPP". Anyway,
that is the setting for 9.1 I think OS 8.6 would be
similar.
