I read this with interest as I have IE 5.1 and run into compat problems. Could you tell me more about how to do this on 5.1 if possible, as well as NS 4.8 etc. Thanks.

I don't know about those browsers. TinkerTool & Onyx allow you the enable the Safari Debug menu without having to mess with Unix commands.
