Hi,

The setup must be :

Wall--(adsl filter)--(modem)--(Wan port of router - Lan ports of
router)--Pc & Mac

The adsl filter has 3 connections

1 : the wall
2 : ADSL
3 : a phone / fax.

You also need to put a filter on every socket in your house where a
phone is plugged !

NEVER connect a phone to the adsl connector (you will jamm the adsl
signal)

Now, for the settings of router & modem many possibilities

1. set the modem

You must have a mail from your provider with some technical info's.
Get it NOW..
1.1 2 options : pppoe or pppoa : your isp should tel you what to use

If it is pppoa, read below
1.2 pci/vci : ask your isp again
1.3 pap / chap : ask ...
1.4 login - password : ask ...
1.5 other settings
set device to 'never disconnect' and 'auto-reconnect'

If pppoe, set your modem to 'bridge mode'
See router section 2.2

2. the router

2.1 if modem in pppoa
        set router to "cable modem"
        change MTU to 1492
set device to 'never disconnect' and 'auto-reconnect'
        other settings ...

2.2 if modem in pppoe,
2.2.1 pap / chap : ask ...
2.2.2 login - password : ask ...
2.2.3 other settings
set device to 'never disconnect' and 'auto-reconnect'

Set the router as dhcp server, with dns relay
Set Pc & Mac in dhcp client

Sorry, it is not plug and play.
But most default options are ok.
If you are afraid, do not worry, chances are very low you could destroy
things
If you still afraid, get a friend, pay him pizza's and coke (or after
the job)
(most geeks like cold pizza's and warm coke ;-) )
But get all tech info before !
(pppoe / pppoa)
(pci / vci)
(pap / chap)
(user id, password - mind small & big letters)

Goot luck & see you on the fast net

ONE LINE OF CAUTION
All those devices use the same connector for the power supply,
But different voltages, current, ...
Using the wrong power supply might let you fry your hardware !
So label your power supplies and put also a label on the connector end
It is easy to have a whole bunch of cables without knowing who is who.

(sorry for the typo's, I am overtired & english is not my mothertoungue)
