Hi Listers,
I keep having problems using Windows file sharing and accessing windows shared folders from Mac OS X 10.3.5. Here's my configuration:
Cable modem --> Airport Station --> Wireless --> other iBooks and iMacs
|
|----> Ethernet Switch --> **Titanium**
| IP 10.0.1.2
|
|---> **Dell Inspiron**
| IP 10.0.1.5
|
|---> LocalTalk Bridge
...
Windows File Sharing is activated on my Titanium, and my main folder is shared on the Dell. Now whenever I try to copy files from the Dell to the Mac using the Dell (i.e. connecting from the Dell to the Mac using Windows File Sharing), file tranfers are so slow that I suspect them to go through the cable modem, wander around on the internet for a while and finally get back to the Mac. It's slower than sending mail...
I also tried to access the Dell's shared folder from my Mac. No luck: although I can (slowly) browse through directories of the mounted shared folder, it disconnects about 10 seconds after I try initiating a file transfer.
This is driving me crazy: I am only using this Dell to check that my Java application can run on Windows, too. As I am developing it on my Mac, I have to wait half an hour before each test build is transferred to the PC. The network used to perform at correct speeds in the past and I really don't see what's changed between then and now so that it becomes so unusable. I may have reinstalled Win2k as well as upgraded from Jaguar to Panther, but I don't see how this should affect network performance or routing in the same subnet (10.0.1.x).
Am I missing something?
TIA, JPP
