I have a new Extreme Base Station, my house is 120 feet long and 40 foot wide split in parts by walls. To get reception good at the far ends and the middle bedrooms I see 2 more bridging units, with extra airports-very expensive. Or will other products work with my Airport Extreme Base station being the main transmitter/broadcaster. 3 EBStations man I could get 2 more pismos and set them out. So must be a less expensive way to go.

If so, please recommended quality and names and models?; The reviews are so varied. Everyone has 4 star rating because the reviews are either 0 or 4s

I love plug and play, if this a will work only if you spoof it into believing; I hate those avenues.

I want to get signal strength as I have a pismo with a 1st generation airport card, I know the Extreme Base Station will not transmit as fast with the 1st generation card but what will.? I have a satellite internet hook up, speed comparable to DSL. NO other options, Star Band is the way to go if you have no other alternative. The other brand forget it.

Was going to take the connection from the satellite modem out to the Airport extreme then out to hopefully to something cheaper to relay signal from EBS. This base station also allows a ethernet out cable connection so still have that option but a lot of work for a little more security I guess.

I see these other DSL wireless units for $30.00. I live in a area where signal proximity or signal "sharing" "swiping" will not be a problem. I do want security on the line, hence the Apple Extreme B.S. that could be true... Would going through a router then to the EBS be better stronger security, really all I have now is the apple firewall. I have a bad taste over routers read below. but does not apply here.

I have a static connection but has been it has been dynamic for me, so far it has been the same ID for a month as its always on. I never turn the modem off, I turn the computer off or sleep.. This has never dropped the connection. I have unplugged it from my ethernet port on the pismo for 24 hours still it's never down.

I am getting over surgeries so it might sneak down when I am asleep but if it does, it's stealthy.... So would appreciate the ideas. On how to do this.

I could just stay with the crossover cable, it runs the whole length of the house but I know I am going to tangle something and end up falling on everything ripping my Pismo to death, screaming the death call of the Pismo and requiring a new model, which would be nice, but I love this old Pismo and can not see anything yet that knocks my socks off in the notebook line. I mean really knocks my socks. Sure 500 to 100o is doubling but all the little petty problems with the other books. This is warm and comfy just like my wife. You get a good one you keep it.

I also have a printer USB HP 5650, sounds like a beast massacring a mastodon but the quality is good, not sure if it's wireless but if one of those cheap repeaters could be tied into the USB cool, it that would make my life really good. The less movement the better my body feels.

So would be most appreciative of any help, ideas, recommendations, truth in my stupidity of understanding or something along those lines. I am looking for answers

This was a pretty dead area but it's breathing, so cool.

Thanks in advance,
Geoff

Totally Separate and of no interest/ or value only read if over 85 or under 84 and really bored or have cable modem or DSL and a Net Gear 614 v2. Only info I need help with is above, please

*I have a set up at another place and use a DSL modem to the above router and has been a major Pain. The Net Gear RP 614 v2 was recommended and supported by the telco, so I bought it, just for the support,-good for me- it has been a major pia as it always drops the connection and you have to do hard resets. Not a quality reliable part, I gave up on connecting airport to it, as I only had 2 months till this little move*** If you have Net Gear 614 v2 the time out must be set to Zero to work on a Mac Pismo 500, totally against instructions but the tech guy and I figured that out after 2 hours.I spent 2 days before calling for help. Turns out the sent me the wrong cable, you must have a crossover cable from modem to router. It came in the box, nobody said crossover patch cable. Heck I was 15 out on my first date with a college girl setting that thing up. I had never had DSL in Alaska now I was about to see some speed 750k, man I was quivering.
