Greetings, I added a PowerMac 8100 (w/ a G3 upgrade 232 MB ram) to the Apple Talk network in my classroom. It was running 8.6 and was missing some extensions, so it couldn't connect, so I upgraded to 9.0. The 8100 can see the others on the network, but none of them can see it. I am sure I am missing something simple, but I don't know what. I checked in File Sharing and the box that says Allow user to connect is checked. Program linking is on. Any advice?
Thanks, Lee
PS The network consists of a g3 upgraded 8500, g3 upgraded 7100, 2 Umax C500s, 2 LC 580s and 1 LC 575.
Make sure that you have selected (single click) the hard drive on the target machine (8100 in this case) and set the computer to "share this item and its contents".
File>get info>sharing>share this item and its contents.
You may need to reset the PRAM if the sharing behavior is bad. (OPT-CMD-P-R at startup)
Also remember that the default for AppleTalk is the printer port (on machines with serial ports).
If you reset the PRAM it will revert AppleTalk to the printer port.
You must select the AppleTalk Control Panel and set it to run out the Ethernet port.
btw, you don't need program linking on for filesharing.
good luck!
