I'm certainly not going to spend any serious money (more than the cost of a good latte!) on what's only (1) a temporary expedient until I consolidate all my hard drives, etc., in my G4 and (2) a training exercise in networking. >Or use your OS X Mac to do the routing. If you mean that I should connect the dialup line to the OS X machine, I'm going to do that promptly. After that, the only routing I'll need to do on the old machine is with LocalTalk Bridge (or LaserWriter Bridge (?)) to my old LW 4/600. (BTW, I have a LW 12/640 that I may be able to revive. Can I use it with OS X? I can now access my files on the OS 9 Mac from the OS X Mac! In fact, I was able for a while to run Eudora on the OS X Mac with the Eudora folder on the OS 9 Mac. At some point, however, the OS 9 Mac (a PTP with a G3 card and an ATA card, BTW) totally froze, naturally severing the connection. I don't know if the freeze had anything to do with the networking or not. But it was such an extreme freeze that I couldn't reboot from the keyboard, but had to first turn it off with the power button. I also wonder whether it could have been caused by Display Sleep or Hard Disc Sleep on the OS 9 machine. (System Sleep is turned off.) >For OS9 make sure that a directory or volume is shared. I have various questions regarding transferring my hardware to the G4, but I'll ask those on another, more appropriate, list. -- MacNetwork is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
