There are a number of reasons why streams might fail.
Please provide a few of the URLs with which you're having
difficulties. That way we can check 'em out and see exactly what
they're doing.
The first one below is most important to me - as I have a subscription
to listen to match commentaries - but it needs passwords to get in!
The next two are both Radio France stations.
ClassicFM is an independent station from UK.
The last one is a random "find" from Canada.

Since I first posted, I have received a further response from Wanadoo.
They suggest either I perform a software update ( I am operating on
10.3.3) or contact the shop where I bought the computer! I've lost all
confidence in them - what do you think?
Please don't hesitate to treat me like a "child" computer-wise. I
shan't be insulted.
