WriteDVD Pro 4.0 - Drag & Drop onto All Recordable DVD Media
By Remy Davison, Insanely Great Mac
May 24th 2002

Support for most DVD recorders, regardless of format.

Software Architects has released the latest version of its DVD writing application,
WriteDVD Pro 4.0, which supports drag & drop recording to DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW and
DVD-RAM.

The new version supports a wide range of DVD recorders which support the competing
formats, including OEM drives from Sony, HP, Ricoh, Philips, Pioneer, Hitachi and
Panasonic, as well as drives packaged by third-party vendors, such as LaCie and QPS.

WriteDVD Pro employs the UDF (Universal Disk Format) file system, which is read by
most Mac and Windows machines, and a number of other operating systems. Software
Architects says this avoids drive conflicts, by using only one type of formatting,
regardless of the type of DVD disk inserted. DVD recorders that also support CDR/CDRW
can also be used in UDF format with WriteDVD Pro.

WriteDVD Pro also supports Real-Time Recording, which is used in some DVD-RAM based
video cameras and video recorders. Background formatting, disk diagnosis and repair,
together with file recovery are some of the features of the new version.

There is no OS X version, but v.4.0 supports OS 8 and 9, as well as various Windows
systems. ATAPI, USB and FireWire interface recorders are supported. Version 4.0 costs
$99.95 and is available for immediately order from Software Architects. English,
Japanese and European language versions are available.
