Macromedia''s MX product line ships
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
May 29th 2002
The company has delivered a slew of promised X-compatible whole-numbers updates before
the end of the month as promised
Macromedia has announced the availability of its Macromedia MX product line.
Macromedia Studio MX, Macromedia Dreamweaver MX, Macromedia ColdFusion MX, and
Macromedia Fireworks MX are all available for immediate purchase today from the
Macromedia Online Store. Combined with Macromedia Flash MX, which began shipping in
March, these products form an integrated product family for creating rich Internet
applications that promise significantly more intuitive, responsive, and effective user
experiences. Macromedia enables designers and developers to deliver solutions across
the widest range of operating systems, browsers, and mobile devices in the industry.
Individually, the products in the Macromedia MX family are major new releases that
offer designers and developers powerful new functionality for creating effective user
experiences across the spectrum of Internet solutions, from basic websites to complex
web applications. The Macromedia MX family is designed to leverage leading Internet
standards including the Microsoft .NET Framework and Java application servers, XML,
accessibility, and Macromedia Flash Player, the most widely distributed rich client on
the Internet, which is deployed to 98 percent of web users. Rich Internet applications
take advantage of rich client technology, which extends the capabilities of web
browsers and Internet-connected devices.
"The Macromedia MX product line has enabled us to create software that allows large
companies selling through multiple sales channels to manage their presales process,
significantly increase their lead closing rate, and increase their marketing ROI,"
said Axel Schultze, CEO, Blue Roads. "Macromedia enables us to deliver a presales
solution whereby salespeople have all relevant lead information in front of them with
an intuitive interface that helps them be more productive."
The company''s press release unfortunately doesn''t mention when these products will
be available at retailers and third-party online dealers.
Analysis: One has to wonder if Macromedia really knows what it''s doing -- a massive
boom to be followed what could be a massive bust. The new features and supported
protocols, such as M$'' .Net (I know it''s not a protocol and it pains me to refer to
it as such, but I can''t think of a better word), make it rather necessary I suppose.
Then again, if their plan pays off -- "revolutionizing" the way the web works -- it
will all have been worth it.
