Amazon X.2 rebate pulled

The online retailer has said they''re discontinuing the offer because of ''excessive
demand''
Amazon has pulled its $50 rebate offer because of excessive demand. Although there are
other deals that are as cheap, they require jumping through hoops -- i.e. first buying
X.1 and then purchasing X.2 through Apple''s Mac OS X Up-To-Date program.
"The demand exceeded our wildest expectations," Amazon.com spokesperson Ling Hong told
MacCentral. "We''re taking stock to see if we''ll reinstate the offer, but we''re not
continuing the rebate at this time."
For those concerned about whether or not their orders have been cancelled Hong told
MacCentral that all orders placed by 7pm (PST), Wednesday would be honored.
Editor''s note: I wonder if Amazon has already taken orders that account for their
entire allotment from Apple and are concerned Cupertino will refuse an order for
additional units? Thinking different on the part of third parties hasn''t exactly been
welcome (i.e. SuperDrive eMacs) of late. I wonder...
