OWC posts 1GHz upgrade benchmarks

If Apple''s recent PowerMac announcements leave you feeling flat, perhaps a CPU
upgrade will fit your budget and processing needs better
OWC -- an IGM advertiser -- has posted benchmarks for the recently released
PowerLogixG4 Series 100 1GHz Processor Upgrade. The review -- performed by Jamie
Dresser -- is thorough and includes a full range of benchmarks, including CPU,
graphics and I/O intensive tasks.
OWC''s test machine -- a stock G4 350MHz Sawtooth -- was also upgraded with an ATI
8500 AGP card (IMHO the finest replacement graphics card in the last three years) in
addition to the PowerLogix 1GHz CPU card.
FYI -- The total price of the upgrade components tested (1GHz CPU $790, and ATI 8500
card, $198) is $988. Other lower priced CPU upgrades are available as well.
The test results, as one would expect, are rather impressive and the review is well
worth your time to check out.
