Subscription service gets off to respectable start.

Apple today announced that 100,000 members had signed up to its .Mac subscription-only
suite of internet tools and applications.

"We''re thrilled to have more than 100,000 .Mac subscribers so quickly," said Sina
Tamaddon, Apple''s senior vice president of Applications. "We''re getting over 1,000
new .Mac subscribers every day, which is proof that many of our users want to
seamlessly extend their digital lives onto the Internet. "

Launched at MacWorld New York in July, .Mac attracted some vehement criticism from
some users and Mac web sites.

However, Apple has attempted to sweeten the deal recently with some free offers. IGM
also reported recently that Apple may provide SMS for its services.
