IOGear Releases 3-Port 10.2-Compliant Cardbus FireWire

Add more FireWire ports to your PowerBook.
IOGear has announced a $70 three-port CardBus FireWire card, claimng compatibility
with OS X 10.2 and OS 9, as well as various versions of Windows.
The multiport card works with any Cardbus-compliant Mac or Windows portable. On the
Mac side, these include the PowerBook G3 (Wallstreet, 1998) and later.
IOGear says the FireWire CardBus Card requires no drivers, and ships with an connector
for an optional AC adapter for non-powered peripherals, such as DV cameras. The card
works with IEEE-1394-compliant DV cameras.
IOGear says the card is available now. More info is available from their site.
Analysis: I''ve heard anecdotally that the cheap IBM ($25) FW card stops working under
10.2, although it worked fine under 10.1.x. I still use Newer''s FireWire2Go in my
Lombard and Wallstreet. Even if you have a Pismo or early TiBook, you might consider a
multiport card. More recent FW controllers via CardBus can be quicker than built-in
FireWire, as Bare Feats has established.
As a side note, I''m not sure why IOGear specifes OS X 10.2 as the operating system. I
suspect this doesn''t mean that the card will not work under pre 10.2 installs, but
may not be supported.
