Pentax, Fuji announce new consumer digi cams

The field in the digital camera X''mas sweepstakes gets bigger by the day
PENTAX has announced the affordably priced and full featured Optio 330GS digital
camera. This stylish compact digital camera offers the digital clarity of 3.2
effective megapixels and provides high-quality images.
With compact dimensions of just 4.0 x 2.5 x 1.5 inches and a weight of only 6.3oz, the
Optio 330GS is convenient to carry and store. These compact dimensions are combined
with a design that lends a sense of style that fits well in the hand.
The Optio 330GS delivers precise images with a 0.57-inch CCD and 12-bit A/D converter.
Then, through the incorporation of advanced image processing technology, images are
enhanced with a greater dynamic range, finer gradation and high-resolution for overall
high-quality.
This camera''s high-performance 3X zoom lens is equivalent to a 38-114mm (SLR) lens,
and combines high-quality and high-resolution with a low level of image distortion.
Also, this latest Optio models offers a 180 degrees swing-out screen which has a
high-resolution 1.6-inch LCD monitor to greatly assist with composition.
The Optio 330GS can transfer images direct to your Mac via the bundled USB cable and
USB driver. ACDSee 1.6, a Carbonized image viewing/management app, also ships in the
package.
Fuji''s offering
Fuji has announce the FinePix F402, one of the smallest and lightest two-megapixel
digital cameras in its class (consumer).
Photographers will delight in the FinePix F402''s beautiful images with incredibly
rich colors and slim, lightweight metal body (3.0 x 2.7 x 0.9 inches, 4.4 ounces), as
well as multimedia features including movie recording and video conferencing. Its
third-generation, 2.1 million effective pixel CCD can produce high-resolution images
with 2304 x 1728 (4.0 million) recorded pixels, which allows consumers to print crisp
and vivid prints up to 11 x 14 inches in size.
The FinePix F402 comes bundled with an NP 40 battery, USB cable, hand strap, 16MB
xD-Picture Card, AC power adapter and battery charger. The camera will be available
for purchase in November for $349.95 (SRP).
Editor''s note: These two cameras fall into the lightweight category in terms of cost,
