Apple Looks to 64-Bit IBM GigaProcessor

Apple abandoning Moto for new IBM chips?
Chipzilla is reporting that IBM is developing a 64-bit PowerPC chip for "high-end"
Macs.
Apple is reportedly testing the chip, known as "GigaProcessor Ultralite" (GPUL) with
OS X. Chipzilla also states that
"The chip will also support Vector/SIMD Multimedia Extensions (VMX), Vector/SIMD
Multimedia eXtension (VMX), an implementation, it is mooted, of the Velocity Engine
used in the PowerPC G4."
The story says that the chip will use a 0.13 micron process, using "lithography copper
and silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology like the Power4". At the same clock speed,
the GPUL apparently doubles the performance of a Motorola 1GHz G4.
