Kodak intros 4.0MP camera with Schneider lens

One of the big selling points of the company''s cameras is the EasyShare system
Kodak has announced the LS443 Zoom Digital Camera, the flagship model in Kodak''s 2002
EasyShare portfolio. This model combines form and function with its sleek,
ultra-stylish design, professional quality lens and 4.0MP resolution.
Kodak has teamed up with Schneider-Kreuznach, a leader in lens technology, design and
manufacture for 89 years. Together, the companies developed the pro-quality
Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon lens used by the LS443. The precision engineered 3X
optical lens, coupled with Kodak''s proprietary-color-science technology, ensures
users get stunning pictures from edge to edge every time. The powerful 10X zoom
capability -- combining the Schneider 3X optical unit with Kodak''s proprietary 3.3X
Advanced Digital Zoom - allows users to take crisp close-ups.
Additional features include:
� An 1.8-inch indoor/outdoor LDC screen with a non-glare coating;
� On-camera "share" button for quick printing, emailing and organizing;
� Special-edition dock for one-touch picture transfer and fast recharging of the high
performance Li-Ion rechargeable battery;
� 16MB internal, Flash memory expansion slot
� Feature dial to access five scene modes close-up, landscape, sport, night and movie;
� Option controls including a menu of three color modes; etc.
Kodak EasyShare software, which simplifies editing, organizing, emailing and printing,
the LS443 comes with a new special-edition dock. The complete package will be
available in October. No price is listed in the press release.
Kodak''s software supports both Classic and X, but Jaguar is not yet supported.
However, drivers or not, Kodak cameras are supported by iPhoto.
Editor''s note: My first digital camera was a Kodak -- it cost over $1,000 and
captured images at 640 x 480 at well under one million pixels. How times have changed.
It is worth noting that the number of megapixels a camera can capture isn''t the
determining factor in image quality. The lens, CCD and D/A convertor all play
important parts.
