Macworld returning to Boston

IDG has reportedly inked a multi-year deal to return the event to its original home
Business Today, reports that Boston has beat out New York in its bid to host Macworld
2004, and return in 2005 and 2006. Although a formal announcement has not been made,
anonymous sources are quoted as saying that IDG World Expo will bring the show back to
the city after a four-year absence.
The return of the biannual Macworld show is expected to give a major lift to the $800
million exhibition center currently under construction in Boston. The venue is
scheduled to open less than a month before the faithful descend on the city.
Organizers believe over 64,000 will attend the event.
The show, say local hotel and tourism industry observers, is also expected to pump
more than $42 million into the coffers of local businesses.
"To have (Macworld) come back to Boston is a boost," Craig Moore, a University of
Massachusetts told Business Today.
Charlie Greco, head of IDG World Expo and Macworld's organizer, made the decision last
week to bring the show back, sources say. Though Greco signaled his interest in
bringing the big tech show back months ago, he found himself at the center of an
intense tug-of-war between Boston and New York.
The agreement between IDG and the center calls for Macworld to move into the
convention center shortly after it opens in the summer of 2004 and to come back in
2005 and 2006. The agreement also includes a clause allowing for a two-year extension.
Editor's note: New York is indeed "the city so nice they named it twice," but I
definitely prefer Boston. For me the city has a unique ambience that's hard to beat.
