The company's low-cost, multiuser, residential license is an appealing customer come on
ThinkFree Corporation has announced the immediate availability of ThinkFree Office
Family Edition -- a single-residence, five-user license package available for $99.90.
"ThinkFree customers are asking for flexibility, and Family Edition further extends
our already liberal customer-focused licensing policies," said Robert Wise, CEO.
"Unlike competing Office products, ThinkFree breaks traditional rules by allowing
consumers to use ThinkFree Office for home, work or school for one remarkably low
price. This is an enormous win for consumers."
ThinkFree Office is an affordable suite of word processing, spreadsheet, and
presentation graphics applications that features integrated, Internet-based file
sharing and storage. With a single-user license, ThinkFree Office users can install
ThinkFree Office, for their own personal use, on as many systems as needed, regardless
of OS.
Family Edition offers the same capabilities and convenience of ThinkFree Office to up
to five members of a single-family household. For a package price of $99.90, ThinkFree
Family Edition includes a total of five user licenses, as well as five accounts to
ThinkFree's online file storage and web services called CyberdrivePlus.
ThinkFree Office is compatible with M$' Office productivity suite and includes word
processing, spreadsheet and presentation apps. ThinkFree Office can seamlessly create,
open, edit and save Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. Written entirely
in Java, ThinkFree Office can run on virtually any Internet-capable operating system
including and Classic, as well as lesser OS'.
Software purchases also include a one-year subscription to ThinkFreez CyberdrivePlus
services. This subscription provides customers with a personal Cyberdrive, which is a
secure Internet file storage system hosted by ThinkFree servers.
ThinkFree Office Family Edition is available in electronic form in the US through the
ThinkFree website for $99.90, and includes five user licenses and five CyberdrivePlus
subscriptions. For current ThinkFree CyberdrivePlus subscribers (included free with
the purchase of the ThinkFree Office Retail Edition CD or Download Edition),
ThinkFree's Family Edition is available as an upgrade for $49.95, which provides five
additional pairs of user licenses and CyberdrivePlus subscriptions.
Editor's note: This is a page from Apple's playback (i.e. the OS X multiuser license),
which is probably a page from someone else's marketing plan. Nevertheless, good ideas
spread of their own accord and kitting out your home with "office" just got easier and
cheaper, and doesn't require one to kow tow to Redmond. Now, how can that be bad?
