Xserve RAID delayed
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
November 22nd 2002

Earlier rumors said it was coming and now Apple has confirmed it

A note posted on Apple's Xserve webpage states that the mothership is delaying the
introduction of their rackmount storage solution until "early" next year.

Here's a quote:

Weve received an overwhelming thumbs up on our Xserve 1U rack-mount server from
customers and reviewers since it started shipping in July and now were working hard
to deliver Xserves companion RAID product in early 2003, not by the end of calendar
2002 as originally announced.

The 3U Xserve RAID promises to deliver high-performance RAID storage via 2Gb Fiber and
supports for 14 ATA/100 drives (for up to 1.68TB of storage). Other features will
include dual 2Gb fibre channel I/O, redundant/hot-swappable power supplies and
cooling, as well as dual-RAID controllers.

Editor's note: Apple has been quite good of late about not delaying products -- at
least publicly. True DDR and G5 processors stand as notable exceptions, but these
"innovations" haven't been publicly announced.
