S-Video TV Out for New iMac

Putting the widescreen on the big screen.
We almost missed this one.
As noted by MacBidouille, it looks like the new iMac can do S-Video and composite out.
No great shakes, except that it appears it can video-out to a TV.
Of course, this feature has been available to PowerBook and iBook users for decades -
well, at least since 1998. Later CRT iMacs can mirror to a second monitor, as can
FireWire iBooks (2000). But they're restricted to mirroring to that additional
display.
The iMac may suffer the same restrictions, but Apple's technical specifications note
that the 1GHz iMac does do S-video and composite video output, with the optional
adapter. The 800MHz iMac lacks this feature.
It may be useful for outputting DVD movies to a larger screen, but we suspect most
people buying iMacs have already purchased a home DVD player. But it does mean that
viewing a movie-in-progress on a bigger screen is useful bit of extra functionality,
particularly, if demoing, say, video rushes to a friend or a client. While the iMac's
17" LCD is one of the best in the business, constantly spinning the disply around to
show someone something or, worse, having them breathe down your neck, are not optimum
solutions. And, even that glorious screen doesn't come close to matching the real
estate of a big TV.
