XServe: Never Mind the Apple, Feel the Unix

Small, medium-sized enterprises like what XServe and OS X Server offers.
Platform agnosticism is making XServe a winner in some firms, including one SME based
in Hong Kong,
George Quang runs Scorpion Precision Industry Ltd., and he's just purchased four
XServes, despite his assertion that he's "never been a big fan of Macs."
The reason for the buy? FreeBSD, the underlying core of OS X. For Quang, it's
FreeBSD's solidity and stability, as well as its support for Windows, Mac, Unix and
Linux clients.
Quang had Windows servers previously, but found them unreliable, and Apple's trump
card - OS X Server's unlimited client license - got him. The per-user license fee that
was mandatory with the use of Microsoft's server software was a significant
disincentive. Worse, the server software cost him dearly for each and every upgrade.
Drawn by the unlimited client license, Quang tried out OS X on a PowerBook before
committing to XServe. While there are still around 50 Windows client boxes at the
firm, applications in use include Filemakrer Pro. Scorpion does have some Macs in its
art department however.
