Newsweek (re)posts 1984 Mac story

Catch up on a little Apple nostalgia with this original story about the original Mac
It?s the Apple of His Eye ? which, irony of ironies is posted on MSNBC ? is an
original Newsweek article from 1984 about the original Macintosh. The catchy though
obvious wordplay of the title pales in comparison to the entertainment value of the
sub-headline: "Steve Jobs is betting the new Macintosh will help win the holy war
against IBM."
That Apple and IBM are now allies in something of a "holy war" against Redmond and its
all-consuming maw is a great historical irony given this backdrop. It's also a very
insightful bit of trivia as one "looks backs" through the lense of the Newsweek piece
you're about to read.
The article is a potpourri of historical anecdotes and personal viewpoints, and is
most entertaining ? especially the luddites whinging about Apple's use of a mouse and
those "cute" icons.
"[T]here was an infectious and inspirational spirit behind the birth of the Macintosh,
which has lasted to this day ? as does the continuing chorus of industry doubters
predicting trouble for Apple. At least some things in the computer industry never seem
to change."
Nope, some things haven't changed...
