Apple posts Security Update 2003-03-03
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
March 3rd 2003

This dot-fix addresses a problem with send mail, but the mothership suggests all do
the install

Apple has posted another Security Update for OS X ? this one date March 3, 2003.
Although this update fixes a problem with send mail, which is by default turned off,
Apple still suggests that all X users install this update.

Specifically, the Security Update 2003-03-03 addresses a security issue in sendmail
where a remote individual could gain access and control of the system. This update
also includes a newer version of OpenSSL that provides improved data confidentiality
by addressing a recently-discovered security issue.

This update is currently only available via the Software Update pane under System
Preferences.

Editor's note: Unlike patches and updates from M$, those from Apple rarely (ever?)
send the user's system spiraling into chaos.

Though updates are more common than in our shared Mac OS past (in terms of security,
Classic is virtually bullet-proof), the term "it just works" still applies to Macs and
the OS; perhaps more so than in before. Piece of mind is more than worth the price
premium.
