Rumor: No Jobs Keynote at MWNY 2003

Apple presence at New York likely to be lower key, no keynote, fewer exhibitors.
If you're expecting a turtle-neck clad Steve Jobs at MacWorld New York this year, be
prepared for a shock.
Nick de Plume at Think Secret says that there will be no Jobs keynote, but a senior
Apple exec - he tips Phil Schiller - will showcase Apple's products. The clincher:
don't expect any new product announcements.
Third-party developers will reportedly get their fair share of stage time as well.
IDG, the conference promoters, are planning a number of feature presentations by major
Apple hardware and software developers on the first and succeeding days.
But don't rule out new products completely, says ThinkSecret. There may be revamps or
product announcements, but they will take the form of press releases and booth
demontrations.
The artlcle says that the decision to opt out of the keynote was taken by Jobs
himself, who apparently said it was increasingly difficult to produce a slew of
innovative products for keynotes.
Apple is also expected to have a smaller presence at MWNY, although it remains a key
exhibitor. Fewer third-party exhibitors will be attending as well. It is unknown
whether this is linked with Apple's lower-key presence, due at least partly to its
well-publicized spat with IDG over its move to Boston in 2004.
