2003 iMacs Do Boot in OS 9 - For Some

Where there's a will, Mac users will find a way.
MacFixit has discovered that there is a cure for iMacs which boot in OS X only. But
you'll need to be an Apple Service Provider (or best buddies with one) to get hold of
it.
According to MacFixit, Apple has posted a hardware test CD for G4 Macs to its Service
Providers page. The image, once burnt to CD, was found to boot into OS 9.
Then the user simply transfers the CD's system folder to the iMac and - surprise,
surprise - you have a working OS 9 system. The system folder contains a ROM file which
does, it seems permit booting into 9.
The article says that testing to this point has been limited to a 2003 iMac.
Analysis: Interesting, as it suggests Apple has not implemented any sort of ROM block.
A hack (sorta) to be sure, but will it work with Power Macs or PowerBooks? For those
who need access to OS 9 on their new Macs, we're sure they're off to befriend an Apple
Genius right now.
