With the Reader announcement I switched over to feedly.  They currently use 
google reader but are going to cut over to their own.  I've liked it as it also 
has iOS apps.  It is a web app on the desktop.  Might want to look at that.  
Reeder on the desktop is good to but uses google reader as the syncing engine.  
I am kind of waiting to see what happens with it as the developer has promised 
to keep it going with something else.
