Hi, My iTunes library is on my Mac Pro in one room, connected to some small speakers. I also have a Mac Mini in the living room, connected to my A/V receiver and 5.1 sound system. I'd like to be able to play songs from iTunes on my Mac Pro through the sound system in the living room. I figured out how to do this indirectly, but I'd like to do it directly. Let me explain what I mean.
INDIRECT METHOD: I can share the iTunes library on my Mac Pro with my Mac Mini. This allows me to open iTunes on the Mac Mini and play music through the sound system in the living room. To do this, however, I have to use screen sharing on the Mac Pro to control iTunes on the Mac Mini. Either that, or else I have to turn on the TV (the screen for the Mac Mini), connect the keyboard and mouse, and then control iTunes on the Mac Mini that way. DIRECT METHOD: I'd rather be able to simply play songs from iTunes on my Mac Pro (not the Mac Mini) and have the audio come out of the sound system in the living room. That is, I'd rather skip the intermediate step of messing with iTunes on the Mac Mini. The Mac Mini is always on, as is the Mac Pro. With an Airport Express (AE), I could connect the AE to the receiver in the living room. Then I could choose the multiple speaker option in iTunes (on the Mac Pro) and have audio play directly from iTunes on the Mac Pro through the speakers in the living room. This should work, but it would require additional cables, and since the Mac Mini is already connected to the sound system, I'd like to use that if possible. It's not like the indirect method is super complicated, but there are times when I would simply like to be able to have the Mac Mini act like an Airport Express for purposes of playing music directly from iTunes on my Mac Pro through the sound system in the living room, without actually having to mess with anything on the Mac Mini. Is this possible? If so, what do I need to do?
