I'm finding iPhoto unbearably slow (42,000+ photos on an iMac QuadCore i7 with
8 GB of RAM).
I'm wondering if Aperture is faster?

i don't have a head-to-head comparison, but Aperture has been very slow for me; i've tried removing the image folders from Spotlight, and i don't Time Machine them either (i make a backup when i import images); that helped but i think there's more to do; it does seem i/o bound, and an SSD will probably help a lot

i'm running the latest Aperture on OS X 10.7.5, using a late 2011 quad i7 macbook pro with 1GB VRAM and 16GB RAM, but a 5400rpm drive; i wouldn't hold out hope for Aperture beating iPhoto, but it is a much more flexible tool; if i were starting over i might choose Lightroom instead, though — Apple doesn't seem to give Aperture a lot of love
