I experienced my first ever crash last week after more than a year's OS X use. I can't pinpoint it to any specific thing, but it might have been associated with trying to "rip" a bad CD with iTunes while the machine was overloaded. Rebooting three times helped (the machine was not responsive the first two reboots). Fortunately, has not happened since.

don't know how you can solve this one, but for the future...Wondered if anybody else had a similar experience or might have some idea how to extricate short of reinstalling (after ten months of customization of this machine, that is a really unattractive concept).
get a $150 refurbished, external 40Gb firewire hd and Dan Kogai's most excellent, free psync (written in Perl!!! of course!!!!) configured to run on shutdown. If your computer crashes you still have the last good config.
