I experienced my first ever crash last week after more than a year's OS X use. I can't pinpoint it to any specific thing, but it might have been associated with trying to "rip" a bad CD with iTunes while the machine was overloaded. Rebooting three times helped (the machine was not responsive the first two reboots). Fortunately, has not happened since.

don't know how you can solve this one, but for the future...

get a $150 refurbished, external 40Gb firewire hd and Dan Kogai's most excellent, free psync (written in Perl!!! of course!!!!) configured to run on shutdown. If your computer crashes you still have the last good config.

did I say psync was free? and that it was written in perl?
