D'oh! The filter at the bottom is applied to both directories *and* files, but it should apply only to files.


Easy workaround: Choosing "All files" will let you select subdirectories. Or, you can hit cmd-shift-G and enter the full name of the directory you want to navigate to, for example "/usr/local/bin".
