I just tried with perl 5.8.0, and yeah, I see it too.  It was a change in 
the build scripts for version 0.72, and I have a fix.  You could try 0.71, 
or wait for 0.73 to come out soon, or update ExtUtils::MakeMaker (though I 
have no idea if that might cause other problems, so I wouldn't personally 
recommend it).

0.72 and 0.73 have only build fixes, except for a small feature addition in 
0.72, so there's really no great reason to wait for 0.73.
