Hi,

I use meld for big tree comparison (ArcitcFox - Firefox) and have often found issues and asked for help.

I can compare the same operation with Meld on Linux or FreeBSD and it is usable on comparable powered CPUs and systems! Maybe it takes longer to scan the tree, but then opening a file takes e.g. a one to a couple of seconds, there is a spinner, then it ends. On Mac, sometimes meld crashes, sometimes stops opening file after while of working, but can be quit and reopened

Old MacOS 10.5-10.9 do not work, no windows opens (10.7 used to work, broke) so I cannot use these as comparisons

Beyond these issues which are specific to MacOS, I also have a "strange" performance issue Opening a file comparison from the tree can be very slow, it may take many minutes. The file opens, but then "comparing" remains in progress for a long time, including spinner.. then it seems to mostly show, spinner continues. Sometimes finishes, sometimes "spins forever" until I loose patience:  left it for hours!

MacBook Pro 15" Core Duo with 10.11: acceptably usable, best of all my systems MacBook Pro 13" Core Duo with 10.13: unusable: comparison sometimes never complete, even after 1h or so MacBook Pro 15" Core i7 with 10.13: quite slow, but with a lot of patience somehow usable
MacBook Air Core i5 with 10.15: slow, but usable with patience

Interestingly, it is not directly related to the number of differences or to show or to the lenght of file! The systems are about the same level of MacPorts and the issue is happening since weeks/months. I just recently noticed that the older system with 10.11 is faster. I was not understanding why the 13" was so slow, the CPUs are comparable. I upgraded RAM so they match.
At a first glance it seems that newer OS introduces some issue!

Someone with different systems willing to reproduce, help fix it, ecc?

I was wondering if it makes sense to test GTK on X11 and if I can do that while maintaining Aqua or if to do the test I need to remove all Aqua GTK applications, switch and then get back. Theoretically it could help narrowing down to a potential drawing issue or if it has python & threading issue.
