hello all,
i'm on a 27" iMac w/ the intel quad core i7 2.8 GHz processor, and the latest
Mac OS X 10.6.4 (snow leopard) which is installed as 64-bit (that's important,
as you will see in a moment).
i'm trying to set up my mac so it can install a build of the new open source
drizzle database. they say in their build/install documents (see —>
http://drizzle.org/wiki/Compiling/MacOS_X), i first have to set up MacPorts.
they then suggest you to do a "sudo port -v upgrade outdated" in the process.
when i do, i get this —>
---> Configuring gettext
Error: You cannot install gettext for the architecture(s) x86_64 because
Error: its dependency expat only contains the architecture(s) i386.
Error:
Error: Did you upgrade to a new version of Mac OS X? If so, please see
Error:
Error: http://trac.macports.org/wiki/Migration
Error:

Log for gettext is at:

Error: Unable to upgrade port: 1

do you know what i should do at this point? is there a 64-bit version of
"gettext" i can reference instead, and if so, how do i do that? i looked at the
page for http://trac.macports.org/wiki/Migration , and am in the process of
trying that. i even tried the experimental "reinstall ports" script, which
seemed to be going ok most of the way through until it hit "pkgconfig," then i
got —>
port deactivate failed: Registry error: pkgconfig not registered as installed &
active.
while executing
"install_ports $operationList"
(file "./restore_ports.tcl" line 259)
... so now i'm finishing off my list of installed files manually, one by one,
with the "+universal" switch.
so what next? any suggestions as to why this is happening? i swear, all i did
was run the MacPorts 1.9.1 pkg installer off the downloadable dmg from the
MacPorts site. i never messed on command line with "expat" or anything else. i
was only running "sudo port -v upgrade outdated" in MacPorts because that was
one of the steps in the instructions for the build/install of the drizzle db on
mac os x (see —> http://drizzle.org/wiki/Compiling/MacOS_X).
if you could please help here, or direct me where to go, i'd really appreciate
it. i just want to get drizzle installed, but won't be able to if i keep
running into these difs between 64-bit & i386.
sincerely,
